Troubleshooting Licensing Issues

  • Restart the application pool for the site to clear any stale license information that may be cached
  • Check the LicenseFile setting in /web.config and any custom .config files in the \App_Config\Include folder to confirm that the license file is located in the correct location
  • Verify modify permissions on the license are assigned to the Application Pool Identity or Network Service account based on which account is assigned to the application pool in IIS
  • Check the Sitecore log files at /data/logs
  • Delete the existing license file and download a new copy of the license directly to the location specified in /web.config and any custom .config files in the \App_Config\Include folder
  • Verify the license file is named license.xml and does not have a txt extension that is not being displayed - configure Windows Explorer to display file extensions
  • Obtain and install a temporary valid license and restart IIS to see if this resolves the issue
  • Confirm that the license has not expired
  • Confirm that the system clock is set correctly
  • Open a support ticket at http://support.sitecore.net and provide them with a screen-shot of the error message
