Request Tracing

Request Tracing

Trace Logging

  • Used to log information about failed requests to an IIS site or application
  • Enables targeted logging so admins do not have to examine all log entries to find a failed request
  • Enables site admins to troubleshoot failed requests without having to re-create the error

Request Tracing

  • Used to determine what is happening with failed HTTP requests
  • You must first enable failed request trace logging for a site before you can enable failed request trace logging for a file or directory within that site
  • When you enable failed request trace logging for a URL, tracing is enabled, by default
  • Buffers trace events for requests and only flushes them to disk if the request fails
  • You define what is a failure
